Welcome to
the Yorkshire Guild of Sommeliers; founded in the early 1960's.
The Yorkshire Sommeliers are Wine lovers from all over Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire and enjoy wine tasting events,
overseas trips and social events throughout the year.
There are nine sections concentrating on Wine Tasting and Wine
Appreciation and each one has its own chairman and committee.
A management committee looks after the affairs of the overall organisation
and arranges overseas trips, the annual dinner dance, annual general
meeting and press and publicity.

to the Yorkshire Sommeliers website.This well-established Wine Society
has currently over
500 members divided amongst nine separate sections - see full details
below.
Our simple aim, through membership, is to promote the discovery
and enjoyment of wine by all. Each individual section arranges its
own programme of events, with a wide range of guest speakers; wine-makers,
wine merchants and wine-lovers with expertise in specific areas
of wine production/grape varieties.
We promote the educational aspect in our tastings and emphasise
that knowledge of the wine in the glass adds to one's enjoyment.
There is a modest annual subscription to the Guild, 60% of which
is returned to the sections enabling them to utilise the funds in
subsidising the cost of quality speakers and wines.
There is an elected executive committee, augmented by the section
chairmen. They meet regularly so as to monitor the operation of
the Guild e.g. finance, membership, overseas visits, providing guidance
where sought and formulating policy where appropriate. To keep members
fully 'au fait' with all matters appertaining to the Guild we also
produce a quarterly magazine 'The Yorkshire Sommelier'.
Joining the Yorkshire Sommeliers
We warmly welcome anyone with an interest in wine whether a complete
beginner or passionate wine enthusiast. No prior knowledge is ever
assumed as the Guild (through its sections) aims to teach/inform
members all they need to develop a love of wine. There are no entry
regulations and the annual membership charge (£22 per individual,
£40 per couple) offers good value for money.
